My Backup Plan as a Luxury Destination Wedding Photographer in Aruba (why every wedding photographer needs a plan B!)
I understand that your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. It’s filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments. Ensuring that everything goes smoothly and that your memories are captured (and saved) perfectly is my top priority. While it's HIGHLY unlikely that anything will go wrong, I want to share my comprehensive backup plan with you so you can feel confident and stress-free on your special day.
Always arriving early
I pride myself on my punctuality and reliability. I always arrive at weddings at least 20 minutes early. This extra time allows me to familiarize myself with the venue if I am not already, connect with the couple and the wedding party, and ensure all my equipment is set up and ready to go so that there’s no lag in starting the photography process. It also provides a buffer for any unexpected delays, ensuring that I’m ready to capture every moment from start to finish.
Backup transport
Aruba is a small island, making it relatively easy to navigate from one location to another. I have my own car, so in all likelihood I’ll just be driving that (look out for the G10 mobile!). However, I always have a backup transport plan in place. Whether it’s arranging a second vehicle or having a trusted local driver on standby, I always make sure that nothing stands in the way of me getting to your wedding on time. This way, even in the rare case of a transportation issue, you can rest assured that I’ll be there, ready to capture your day.
Backup photographers
Life is unpredictable, and while it’s extremely rare, unforeseen circumstances such as family emergencies or force majeure events can occur. To prepare for such situations, I have a network of talented photographers on speed dial. These are professionals I trust and who share my commitment to quality and style. If, for any reason, I am unable to make it, you will have a skilled photographer to capture your wedding, who will take charge and document your special day beautifully.
Comprehensive photo backups
Something that you should always discuss with your wedding photographer in your initial consultation is how they plan on keeping your wedding photos safe. Personally, protecting your precious memories is crucial, which is why I take multiple steps to ensure that nothing will happen to your photos:
On the day:
Three cameras: I always bring 3 cameras to all my bookings. One of them is my main camera, the one I will use 60% of the time. Another has a different lens which I would use 40% of the time, and then I always have a backup! This way, no matter what happens, I won’t be left taking your wedding photos on my phone!
Dual Memory Cards: My camera is equipped with dual memory card slots, meaning every photo I take is instantly backed up on two separate cards. This provides immediate redundancy in case one card fails.
Second Shooter: When necessary, I bring a second shooter to capture additional angles and moments. This not only enhances the coverage but also serves as another form of backup for your photos.
Post-Wedding:
Triple Backup at Home: Once I return to my studio, I back up your photos in three separate locations: my main hard drive, an external hard drive, and a dedicated backup system. This ensures that your images are safe from any potential data loss.
Cloud Storage: In addition to physical backups, I upload your photos to a secure cloud storage service. This adds an extra layer of protection, so that your memories are safe even in the unlikely event of hardware failure or other unforeseen issues.
Conclusion
I want to stress that it is VERY rare that any of these backup plans will need to be utilized. Nonetheless, having them in place provides peace of mind for both you and me. My commitment to capturing your wedding day flawlessly includes being prepared for any eventuality. This thorough approach allows you to focus on enjoying your special day, knowing that every precious moment is being safely documented.
