The ideal timeline for your destination wedding in Aruba: A photographer’s perspective
The right timeline can truly make all the difference in capturing those unforgettable moments. So, let’s walk through the ideal wedding day timeline to ensure you get the most out of your special day in Aruba!
Starting the day: Getting ready (2–3 Hours)
8:00 AM–11:00 AM
Mornings in Aruba are beautiful, and starting your day early helps you beat the heat while taking advantage of that gorgeous natural morning lighting. Personally, I recommend setting aside at least two to three hours for the “getting ready” portion of your day.
Bridal Prep (1.5 Hours): This is when the magic begins. From capturing the details of your dress, shoes, and jewelry to those candid moments with your bridesmaids, we want to ensure there’s enough time to photograph everything without feeling rushed. That way, I can make sure that every emotion you’re feeling is caught on camera, so you can always relive the entire day.
Groom Prep (45 Minutes–1 Hour): Don’t forget the groom! While his prep typically takes less time, it’s equally important to capture those final moments before he sees his bride. I’ll spend time photographing the groom, his groomsmen, and those small yet significant details like cufflinks, ties, and boutonnières.
The first look: A special moment (30–45 Minutes)
11:30 AM - 12:15 PM
If you’re planning a first look, this is the perfect time to do it. The first look is such a special moment that allows the couple to connect privately before the ceremony. Plus, it gives us the opportunity to capture those raw, emotional reactions without the added pressure of an audience. Rest assured, we’ll make sure to find a beautiful, secluded spot where you can share this intimate moment and get some stunning portraits before the ceremony begins.
Ceremony: Saying "I Do" (30–60 Minutes)
1:00 PM–2:00 PM
Whether you’re exchanging vows on the beach or in a charming garden, your ceremony will be one of the most memorable parts of the day. I always suggest allocating about 30 to 60 minutes for the ceremony itself. This allows time for the processional, vows, ring exchange, and that all-important first kiss as a married couple.
Post-Ceremony: Family and Group Photos (30–45 Minutes)
2:15 PM–3:00 PM
Immediately after the ceremony, we’ll move into family and group photos. This part of the day can sometimes feel a bit hectic, so having a pre-planned shot list is essential. I advise allocating about 30 to 45 minutes for these photos, depending on the size of your wedding party and guest list. Regardless of the number, we’ll work efficiently while keeping things relaxed and fun.
Couple’s portraits: Capturing your love (1 Hour)
3:15 PM–4:05 PM
Now for the fun part—your couple’s portraits! This is where we really get to showcase your love story against Aruba’s stunning landscapes. Whether we’re shooting on the beach, in a lush garden, or by one of the island’s iconic landmarks, I like to spend at least an hour capturing these moments. We’ll time it so we can take advantage of the soft afternoon light, which adds a beautiful, romantic glow to your photos.
Cocktail hour: Candids and details (1 hour)
4:30 PM–5:30 PM
While you’re enjoying cocktail hour with your guests, I’ll be capturing all the little details that you’ve spent hours painstakingly planning—decor, food, drinks, and those spontaneous candid moments between friends and family. This is also a great time for you to relax and mingle while I work behind the scenes to capture the ambiance and joy of your celebration.
Reception: Let the party begin! (3-4 Hours)
6:00 PM–10:30 PM
Your reception is the time to let loose and celebrate with your loved ones. So don’t stress about the photography; I’ve got that handled. From your grand entrance and first dance to speeches, dinner, and cake-cutting, the reception is packed with unforgettable moments. We’ll need at least three to four hours for this part of the day to ensure we capture everything—both the big moments as well as the candid interactions.
Sunset Photos: Depending on the time of year, sunset in Aruba typically falls between 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM, a.k.a. the golden hour. If you’re up for it, we can sneak out for a quick sunset session to capture those breathtaking colors against the ocean. Trust me, it’s worth it!
