How to book a photoshoot on Renaissance Private Island - “Flamingo Beach”, Aruba
What is Renaissance Private Island?
Renaissance Private Island is an exclusive retreat located on the coast of Aruba, offering an unparalleled luxury experience. Situated just off the coast of Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino, this private island boasts pristine white-sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and lush tropical surroundings. Guests can indulge in a range of activities including lounging in private cabanas, snorkeling among colorful coral reefs, or sipping cocktails at the renowned Flamingo Beach. The Private Island consists of two beaches side by side… one open to anyone, with a restaurant and bar, and one for adults only with a bar. The Island also features a nature walk, beach tennis courts and a gym.
So how do I get a photoshoot with the flamingos?
First of all, and most importantly, you must be a guest of the Renaissance Hotel in order to get a photographer pass to the island (for me to access the private island). Not Marriott, Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis. Renaissance and Renaissance only!
The ONLY way to get me on the island otherwise would be to book a day pass for me which costs over $100, and they sell out FAST. It’s usually better bang for your buck if you just book a room at the resort. (the rooms are very nice, I’ve stayed a few times before!)
Things to know about the island rules:
Photoshoots are only permitted between 7am-9am. The sweet spot, and my preferred time for photo or video sessions (or both) is always 7:30am-8:30am if you’re booking 1 hour. If you’re booking 2 hours with me, we use the total time permitted.
The first boat out to the island starts at 7am, and then runs every 15 mins back and forth until 6pm.
Sunset photoshoots are not permitted as the island closes before sunset all year-round.
Sunsets on the island are reserved exclusively for weddings on the private island. If you do want to book your wedding on the island, as per the rules you must also have your reception there. That is the only way they allow celebrations on the island at night.
Things to know about the beautiful flamingos on the island:
At any given point in time there are around 10-15 flamingos roaming the island. They can be anywhere so you have to look out for them!
In the mornings the flamingos are the most hungry! During the day they get so much food, it isn’t an incentive for a photo anymore!
The island has 2 flamingo food stations. Take a plastic cup and some quarters, and you can feed them as much as you want.
Remember, they are wild animals. Sometimes they get annoyed if you come too close. They should not be picked up, touched or taunted by any means!
