Why should you do a first look for your wedding in Aruba?

Planning a wedding in Aruba is a dream come true for many couples. The pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and breathtaking sunsets create a picture-perfect backdrop for any ceremony. As a luxury destination wedding photographer in this beautiful paradise, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing countless love stories. One topic that often comes up in wedding planning discussions is the "first look"—a private moment where the couple sees each other before the ceremony. The reactions I have caught on camera are nothing short of magical. For this, and the reasons below, I would highly recommend taking the time to do a first look with your partner.

1. Emotional Intimacy

A first look provides a private, intimate time away from the eyes of guests. It allows couples to connect emotionally without the pressure of having the ‘correct’ reaction, often resulting in an authentic, heartfelt moment. This setting is also perfect for capturing genuine emotions and creating beautiful, candid photos.

2. Calming Nerves

Seeing your partner before the ceremony can significantly reduce any pre-wedding jitters. Many couples find that a first look helps them feel more relaxed and present during the ceremony, which ultimately enhances their overall experience of the day.

3. Flexibility with Timeline

A first look allows for more flexible scheduling. By completing some of the photos before the ceremony, you free up more time to enjoy your cocktail hour and reception. This can be particularly beneficial for destination weddings where you and your guests want to make the most of the celebration.

4. Picture-Perfect Moments

In Aruba, the lighting can be harsh during midday. Scheduling a first look allows for photos during optimal lighting conditions, such as the soft, golden light of the late afternoon. This ensures your photos are stunning and beautifully lit. Not to mention, both the bride and the groom will be fresh out of hair and make-up, meaning they’ll be picture-ready!

5. Enjoying the Reception Sooner

With many photos taken care of pre-ceremony, you can dive straight into your reception after the ceremony. This allows you to maximize time with your guests and enjoy the festivities without interruption or time-constraints.

Conclusion:

The alternative to a first look, otherwise known as an “aisle reveal”, has some benefits as well. The anticipation that’s been built might make the moment you seeing your partner that much more emotional. However, in my honest opinion, the pros of a “first look” far outweigh those of an “aisle reveal”, which is why I will always recommend it to clients!
